One Dead, Four Hospitalized After Howard Street Car Crash

One person was killed and four people were critically injured after a car crash in the 2900 block of Howard Street in neighboring Evanston late Thursday evening.

One man died and four other people were seriously injured in a car crash in the 2900 block of Howard Street Thursday night, according to authorities.

Six people were riding in a car that was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed into a tree near the intersection of Howard Street and Kedzie Avenue, according to Chicago Police. 

The driver was unresponsive at the scene of the accident, police said, while four other people were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries and are in stable condition.  A sixth occupant of the car ran away on foot, according to police.

A representative of the Cook County's Medical Examiner's confirmed that the driver was dead, and said an autopsy had yet to be performed. He said they could not yet release further details about the man.
