Woman in Custody for Skokie Boy's Death

Skokie police are holding a 23-year-old woman in custody for her involvement in a three car accident that led to the death of an 8-year-old Madison School student.

Police are holding a 23-year-old Skokie woman in custody after she allegedly hit and killed an 8-year-old boy near the intersection of Main Street and St. Louis Avenue on Monday around 4:30 p.m.

While charges are still pending, police had the woman provide several samples for toxicology tests, which is required per Illinois law, police said.  While officers said they don't think alcohol played a role in the death of the second-grader, it will still take up to six weeks to get the test results back, police said. The woman currently remains in custody, authorities said.

The boy, who was identified as Carter Vo, was out with his bicycle before being hit and killed as a result of the three car accident. He would later be pronounced at 8:18 p.m. that day. Vo was a student at Madison School*.

*An original version of this article incorrectly stated Vo attended John Middleton School.

Incorrect. Middleton School is about a half block away from where Carter was killed. He attended Middleton until this school year, when he moved and transferred to Madison.

A total tragedy. Drive slower by schools. Give your kids a hug.
