Police Issue Alert For Armed Robberies in South Evanston

Police are warning residents to be vigilant after four armed robberies took place within three days in southeast Evanston.

Evanston police believe at least four armed robberies that took place this week may be related, and are cautioning residents to be especially vigilant.

Police say there appear to be similarities between four robberies that took place in south Evanston between Tuesday, Jan. 14, and Thursday, Jan. 16, according to Evanston Police Cmdr. Jason Parrott.

"We do have a pattern going on," Parrott said.

The robberies took place at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, in the 200 block of Custer Avenue; at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, in the 400 block of Callan Avenue; at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, in the 300 block of Custer Avenue; and at 6:25 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, in the 700 block of Hinman Avenue.

In each instance, male, teenaged offenders wearing dark clothing approached their victim shortly after he or she had parked a car and was down the street. The robbers displayed a firearm in several of the robberies, and in some cases, knocked their victims to the ground. In most cases, they stole money and cell phones, according to police.

"People need to be aware of their surroundings," Parrott said, particularly when exiting a vehicle.

Residents who see anything suspicious are asked to call 911.
