UPDATE: Resident Captures SPD Bust

More details are in regarding the pictures provided by one of our readers.

A scene that involved almost a dozen officers – some equipped with military grade assault rifles – turned out to be a false alarm on Wednesday around 4 p.m.

Police were dispatched to an apartment near Church Street and Ewing Avenue after a frightened caller told police that two of his friends were threatening  each other, and that one of them was possibly going to use a gun to resolve the issue, according to Deputy Chief Anthony Scarpelli.

Scarpelli added that units were armed more than usual because the scenario could have involved a firearm.

“We set up a small perimeter,” Scarpelli said. “We wanted to be in position as a precautionary measure.”

After securing the perimeter, police ordered all five occupants to come outside of the apartment one at a time. Officers then searched the individuals and home, but were unable to locate any weapons.

In the end, police determined there was no firearm and released all but one of the suspects, who happened to have an outstanding arrest warrant stemming from a traffic violation, Scarpelli said.

At time of publication, police were unable to provide any names. A police report may be available next week so check Skokie Patch soon for an update.
