Road Rage Escalates to Fight

2 groups of women scuffle in parking lot of Marketplace on Oakton, police say.

Police are calling  it a case of road rage involving  at least five woman scuffling  Sunday evening at Marketplace on Oakton.

Officers responded to a call about 6:40 p.m. regarding a report of  a fight in the supermarket's parking lot, 4817 W. Oakton St. A police officer said between five and six women were involved.

Several women in a black Nissan were cutoff by a vehicle with another group of women near Oakton and Skokie Boulevard. The Nissan occupants retaliated by spitting at the other driver's face and throwing a container of coffee at her, said Marvin Benjamin, a  bystander who saw the event unfold.

The situation then escalated when both parties drove to Marketplace lot and started fighting, he said.

Another witness, who wished to be identified as "Eddie," said the women fled when  they saw police were approaching.

While police were able to apprehend two of the women, several others got away in the black Nissan. However, no names were released at this time.

Skokie police said they were able to respond before the situation escalated any further.  No severe injuries were reported from the incident.
