Shots Fired, Attempted Murder in Lincolnwood

Police charged Reynaldo Arrieta with attempted murder and aggravated assault on Monday.

An Elmwood man was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after he allegedly tried shooting a former lover and her friend during an altercation in Lincolnwood on Monday, police said. 

Officers responded to a shots fired complaint at Shell Gas Station, 6400 Lincoln Ave., around 9 a.m., and arrested Reynaldo Arrieta. Police said an investigation soon revealed that Arrieta approached two victims and brandished a 9mm firearm.

Officers later learned the victims were Arrieta’s ex-girlfriend and her acquaintance. A struggle ensued when Arrieta allegedly threatened to shoot the male acquaintance and then fired one round, according to police. Arrieta attempted to fire the gun a second time but the gun malfunctioned, police said.

The semiautomatic handgun was recovered from the scene and no one was injured, police said.

Arrieta was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault; he was transported to the Skokie Courthouse where he is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.
