Skokie Fire Department Received $100K For New Tech

The grant enabled Skokie firefighters to equip three of ambulances with powered cot-fastening systems.

Thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Skokie American Legion, Skokie Fire Department was able to equip three of the department’s four ambulances with powered cot-fastening devices, making the village one of the first municipalities in the Chicago metro area to have the technology, Skokie Review reported.

The new devices are installed on ambulance floors and will support the cot while the wheels are off the ground, lessening the chances of patients being dropped, and could also reduce back problems and other injuries among emergency responders who had to manually lift the cots into the ambulances in the past, the website reported.
