Cops: Skokie Officer Bit, Battered After Arrest

An officer was bit and attacked after arresting an 18-year-old teen at Shawnee Park on Oct. 4, police said.

Police responded to a suspicious incident at Shawnee Park, 3730 Lee St., on Oct. 4 around 7:40 a.m. According to the report, a park monitor said a teen was sleeping on the park floor.

When officers arrived they found the teen, Shea Cameron Henderson, 18, who told them he needed a ride home to his house in Chicago, the report said. When officers ran his name, however, a warrant for his arrest appeared for aggravated battery. Police then placed Henderson under arrest and took him to the department for booking.

During the booking process, officers removed the handcuffs from Henderson and instructed him to place his hands behind his head. Instead, he attacked a nearby officer by elbowing them in the chest, the report stated. Soon after, a struggle ensued and Henderson bit a female officer, according to the report. The same officer would later have abrasions on her knees, arms and elbows as a result of the struggle.

Both the officer and suspect were transported to Skokie Hospital for treatment. They were both released shortly after checking in.

Henderson was ultimately charged with numerous offenses, including two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, obstructing justice, attempting to disarm a police officer and resisting arrest.

If he's incarcerated, I'm sure it won't be for long enough.
