Police charged a Chicago man with possession of marijuana after a routine traffic stop in Skokie on April 24. The suspect allegedly had more than 290 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and several plastic baggies in his possession.

Rene DeLeon, 38, of the 1900 block of 24th Street in Maywood, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver on April 24. DeLeon was stopped in the 3600 block of Oakton Street for speeding and having no registration sticker, the report said. When police approached the vehicle, they smelled a large odor of cannabis emitting from the vehicle, according to the report.

It was soon uncovered that DeLeon allegedly had more than 293 grams of marijuana - which equates to more than 10 ounces - in his car, the report said. Officers also found smaller amounts of cannabis wrapped inside plastic baggies as well as a digital scale.
