UPDATE: Skokie Woman Found in Canal Pronounced Dead

A 24-year-old woman was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston after a pedestrian saw her body in a canal near Main Street and McCormick Boulevard this morning. She was pronounced dead Saturday evening.

Update - 11/19, 9:28 a.m. - 

The woman has been identified as Andia Ymeraj, of Skokie, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. 

An autopsy is scheduled for later this weekend.

Update 11/17, 7:54 p.m. - 

Both the Evanston and Skokie Fire departments responded to the canal at Main Street and McCormick Boulevard regarding a report of a female who had jumped into the canal on Saturday around 10 a.m.

The departments conducted joint operations, and with the help of a reliable eye witness were able to determine the exact location where she went under. At this time, it is unclear why the woman jumped into the canal. 

The woman - who has not yet been identified - was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston where she was pronounced dead several hours later.

Earlier 11/17, 12:32 p.m. - 

A 24-year-old woman from Skokie was found in a canal near Main Street and McCormick Boulevard today around 10 a.m., police said. They believe the woman might have been in the water since last night. 

She was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston and her status is currently unknown.

Evanston police initially received a call about the woman, but the case was later transferred to the Skokie Police Department. At this time, police are not suspecting foul play.
