Teen, 14, Reports Attempted Abduction

A 14-year-old boy was nearly abducted near Oakton and Warren Streets on Feb. 6 around 8:30 p.m., police said.

The teen was walking home in the 4800 block of Oakton Street when he was approached by a man driving a red two-door vehicle - possibly a Mercedes or Volkswagen, according to police. The suspect asked the teenager to enter his car, but the victim denied his request and said he was going to call the police instead.

The teen soon fled the area and called police from his home.

The suspect was described as a black male, about 30 to 40 years of age, 5-foot-10, thin build, mustache, black short hair, balding and wearing a black coat, police said.

Local law enforcement said they're "aggressively investigating" the case and are asking the public for help. Officers are encouraging residents to report any suspicious vehicles or persons matching the said description. Callers can remain anonymous, police said.

In 2010, there were 12 registered sex offenders living in Skokie. Now, that number has risen to 17. Sex offenses as a whole, however, have gone down 7 percent,

In Sept. 2010, Some of the reported incidents weren't related, police said, and the suspect in those cases was described as a 60-year-old white male who drove a blue four-door vehicle.

Meanwhile, on Chicago's Northwest Side, an 11-year-old boy was approached by a man who tried to lure him into his car with an XBOX on Jan. 31, according to CBS Chicago. The boy refused and ran away, but the suspect exited his vehicle and chased after him. Fortunately, the child was able to make it home.
