Teen Awareness Town Hall Meeting
District 219 - along with representative from Turning Point, the Skokie Police Department, among others - will be hosting a raising teen awareness forum at Niles North on April 4.
Parents and guardians in Niles Township are invited to join local school administrators, community service agencies, law enforcement officials and others who will answer your questions at the next Raising Teens Town Hall meeting on Thursday April 4 at the Niles North High School Auditorium, 9800 Lawler Ave., at 7 p.m.
Topics and presentations covered include:
- Results of the 2012-2013 Social Norms Survey: Dr. Nanciann Gatta, District 219 Superintendent.
- Depression/Suicide Prevention/School Refusal: Niles North Student Assistance program (SAP) Coordinator Anna Hamilton.
- Technology Internet Usage: Sarah Migas, Illinois Attorney General’s Office.
- Drugs/Alcohol/Curfew: Niles West SAP Coordinator Karin Wick.
- Dating/Sex/Supervision: Lydia Tracy, Turning Point.
- Police-Related Matters: Commander Brian Baker and Detective John Long, Skokie Police Department
- Healthy Kids/Healthy Communities, and Support for Middle School Students: Dr. Quintin Shepherd, District 69 Superintendent.
This meeting is your chance to learn the results of the social norms survey recently completed at Niles North and Niles West High Schools. This survey measures teens’ behavior and what they perceive to be the behavior of their peers. The meeting will begin with a summary of results from the survey to give parents a true picture about the usage of drugs, alcohol and tobacco among the high school students. These findings dispel some myths but also underline what parents of teens and pre-teens should know about the use of these substances.

Most of the meeting will give parents time to ask questions of professionals from Niles Township who represent social service agencies, schools, law enforcement and local government. If you prefer, you can email your questions to rosbha@d219.org, and your questions will be presented at the meeting anonymously.
There will be an Information Fair after the meeting, hosted by members of the NTYC, where you can pick up literature on different agencies and ask specific questions of the agency representatives.

The Niles Township Youth Coalition (NTYC) is composed of local community agencies that serve Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Niles and Skokie. Its purpose is to bring together the key social service agencies that support children and families in Niles Township, to help provide a safe and secure community.
