Thursday Blotter: $1K Theft at Banana

Bilked cabbie

Police were dispatched to Old Orchard Mall regarding a theft of services on March 18. According to the report, a man in his twenties allegedly ditched his $24 cab fare.

A manager at Banana Republic in Old Orchard Mall told police that a man took about 20 polo shirts from a display on March 14. The alleged victim dumped the shirts in his shopping bag and fled the store, the report said. He was described as either Hispanic or Middle Eastern, about 5-foot-11 and 220 lbs, the report said. The total loss of the items was valued at around a $1,000.

Theft at Nordstrom

Joanna Dereszkiewicz, 42, of the 7800 block of Summerdale Avenue in Chicago, was charged with misdemeanor retail theft on March 26. Dereszkiewicz allegedly concealed $858 worth of women’s clothing while shopping at Nordstrom in Old Orchard and attempted to leave without paying, according to the police report. Her court date is May 10.

Dual identity

A Skokie man came into the police station to report a deceptive practice on March 26. A man in Arizona has been working at a Walmart using his social security number, the report said. The victim told police that he was unaware about this for several years.

Graffiti

Police responded to a criminal damage complaint in the 4800 block of Dempster Street on March 26. Yellow paint was used to write the words “ZADI WOLS ZONE” on the side of a building, according to the report.
