Thursday Blotter: Another Ruse Burglary

Bad rent

A landlord reported that he believes a previous tenant vandalized his apartment on March 1. According to the report, the tenant was upset that he was not getting back his security deposit, despite not paying rent for four months, the report said. Several appliances and tiles were reported damaged.

Lawn decorations stolen

Police were dispatched to the 4000 block of Enfield Avenue regarding a theft on March 4. According to the report, several white and pink stones were stolen outside a home. Each stone was valued at around $20.

A car parked in the 5100 block of Suffield Terrace was reported burglarized on March 4. According to the report, a red brick was used to gain entry inside the vehicle. A GPS device was reported missing, the report said.

Ruse burglary

Two men posing as employees from the village’s water department allegedly stole more then $10,000 of jewelry, a BB gun and $1,500 in cash from a home in the 5100 block of Fitch Avenue on March 5. One subject told the homeowner to stay with him while the other went upstairs, the report said. There has been several ruse burglaries reported recently. Police are advising not to let anyone in your home unless you’re expecting them or can verify who they are.
