Thursday Blotter: Apple Theft Fail

More wooden pallets stolen

Police responded to a theft at Market Place on Oakton, 4817 Oakton St., on April 21. According to the report, about $60 worth of wooden pallets were taken from the back of the store outside. This is the third time the owner has reported a pallets theft, the report said.

Gary Wayne Dobert, 29, of the 2600 block of Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft on April 21. According to the report, Dobert entered the Apple Store in Old Orchard and “appeared very nervous.”

Dobert then allegedly selected two Microsoft software packages with a combined value of $479 and tried to leave the store. He was stopped by security, however, and police would later charge him. Dobert’s court date is May 7.

Put your cell phones away

A woman reported that an unknown person stole her Apple iPhone 4S while she was watching a movie at AMC Theaters in Village Crossing on April 20. The victim told police she believes her phone fell under her chair while watching the movie. She added that when she tried calling her phone that it went straight to voicemail.

Moviegoer robbed

A woman watching a movie at AMC Theatres in Village Crossing reported her cell phone stolen on April 20. According to the report, the suspect unzipped her black leather jacket, which was hanging on the back of her chair, and removed her smartphone.

Residential burglary

A home in the 8900 block of Bronx Avenue was reported burglarized on April 20. According to the report, an unknown person(s) gained entry and removed several electronic devices and jewelry.

Abusive employee

The manager of the Sprint store in the 9400 block of Skokie Boulevard reported a disorderly conduct complaint on April 20. According to the report, one of the manager’s employees came in 12 minutes late. When the manager questioned the employee, he became verbally abusive, the report said. No charges were filed.
