Thursday Blotter: Big-Time Prescription Drug Bust

At Skokie Patch, we update our blotter daily.

Prescription drug bust

On Sept. 1 about 5 p.m., police charged Daniel Aparicio, 32, of the 1500 block of Oak Street in Evanston, with three felony counts of possession of a controlled substance. Police noticed that Aparicio's vehicle had no front license plate, but weren't able to pull him over immediately as they got stuck at a red light.

As they waited, Aparicio parked his 2006 Audi A8 at a BP gas station on Dempster Street and McCormick Boulevard and exited the vehicle with a puppy. He then walked the dog to a sculpture park to the east and left his girlfriend, Marisol Barrera, 30, of the 5000 block of West Wolfram in Chicago, in his car.

With Aparicio gone, police approached the vehicle and asked his girlfriend – who was driving the vehicle – for her license and registration. During their questioning, they saw a bag containing several green pills and a manila envelope that was later determined to contain 354 Vicodin pills. According to the report, Barrera gave police permission to open the envelope.

When Aparicio returned from walking his dog, officers asked him if the pills were his, and he replied, "Yes," according to the report.
