Thursday Blotter: Break-in at Restaurant; SUV Stolen

Attempted burglary

Police responded to a suspicious incident in the 8000 block of Kolmar Avenue on May 9 around 10:30 p.m. When they arrived and spoke to the homeowner, the call was reclassified as an attempted burglary.

The homeowner noticed several doors and gates were left opened and suspected there was an attempt to break into her house. No items were reported missing.

CTA train vandalized

A train being serviced at the CTA train yard, 3701 W. Oakton St., was vandalized on May 15. According to the report, spray paint was used to write illegible words on a train car. This is the second time in two weeks a car at the train yard has been vandalized.

Theft from car

A car parked in the 8200 block of Kilpatrick Street was burglarized on May 16. According to the report, several documents were missing from the vehicle. The owner said he returned to his car and noticed the passenger side door open.

Vehicle likely repossessed

Police were dispatched to the 3300 block of Capitol Drive regarding a stolen auto on May 17. According to the report, a red Mustang parked on the street was taken. When police investigated, they discovered there was a repossession order for the vehicle.

SUV stolen

A 2002 Ford Explorer was stolen while it was parked in the 9300 block of Karlov Avenue on May 16. According to the report, the victim was unloading groceries around midnight and returned to the vehicle to find it missing. The owner was in possession of the key.

Marijuana bust

Alexander Foix, 30, of the 900 block of Locust Street in Wilmette, was charged with possession of marijuana on May 13 around 3 a.m. According to the report, police stopped Foix near the 8900 block of Skokie Boulevard after they saw his vehicle swerve.

After the stop, police noticed that Foix was nervous and smelled burnt cannabis inside the vehicle. They found a glass pipe and less than a gram of marijuana. His court date is June 15.

Restaurant burglarized

Police responded to the Charcoal Oven restaurant, 4400 Golf Rd., about a burglary on May 16. According to the report, several pry marks were found outside of the restaurant. Entry was apparently made, but nothing was reported taken.

Almost 3 times over limit in DUI stop

Elizaveta Romanova, 23, of the 1000 block of Pear Avenue in Wheeling, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on May 16 around 7 p.m. According to the report, Romanova was stopped near the intersection of Gross Point and Golf roads for a traffic violation. She had a blood alcohol content level of .301. Her court date is June 3.
