Thursday Blotter: Cocaine Charge, Theft

Routine stop leads to cocaine charge
Antonio Gomez-Perez, 22, of the 2500 block of Luna Avenue in Chicago, was charged with possession of cocaine on April 11. According to the report, Perez was stopped in the 5000 block of Old Orchard Road for a traffic violation. Perez was “breathing heavily and seemed nervous,” the report said. He also didn’t have a driver’s license. Officers soon uncovered about a gram of cocaine that they found in his jeans, the report said. His court date was May 7.
Cosmetic theft

A manager at Cosmo Professional, 3531 Dempster St., called police to report a theft on May 4. According to the report, the man told officers that an unknown woman entered the store and removed about $96 worth of beauty products before fleeing the store.
Deceptive practice

A man came into the Skokie police station to report a deceptive practice on May 1. According to the report, the man had submitted his mortgage check for $1,770 to his mortgage company. However, the company told him they never received the check and his bank would later state that another person cashed the check. Police are investigating.
DUI
Tadeusz Kupiec, 24, of the 8200 block of Kilpatrick Avenue in Skokie, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and having an open bottle of liquor inside a vehicle on May 5. While Kupiec refused to provide a breath sample, police still charged him with a DUI, the report said.

Steven J. Mendro, 35, of the 7700 block of Gregory Street in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of cannabis on May 5.
