Thursday Blotter: Giggling Driver Almost Hits Cop

Giggling driver almost hits cop

Police arrested Steven Esho, 21, of the 4400 block of Golf Road, after he nearly hit an officer on July 25.

Following an accident, police were directing traffic near the intersection of Howard Street and McCormick Boulevard when a white Buick – driven by Esho – refused to stop, according to the report. Esho allegedly continued driving despite the fact an officer was yelling at him to stop.

Esho finally came to a stop after the officer dodged his vehicle, the report stated. When Esho exited the vehicle police “immediately detected an odor of burn cannabis” emitting from the driver, according to the report.

When officers asked Esho if he would perform a field sobriety test “hi giggled and said ‘sure,’” according to the report.

Esho was ultimately charged with disobeying a police officer, failure to wear a seatbelt and driving under the influence of drugs. Officer also allegedly found a small amount of cocaine inside Esho’s vehicle, the report stated.

His court date is Aug. 10.

Man eludes police

A Waukegan man was stopped near Dempster Street and McCormick Boulevard on July 29. According to the report, the alleged suspect was driving without a front license plate and was pulled over by officers.

After police stopped the vehicle, the driver gave officers a false name and fled the scene as police walked back to their squad car. No arrests were made.

Vehicle vandalism

Police responded to a criminal damage complaint in the 5100 block of Dempster Street on July 22. According to the report, an unknown person smashed the driver’s side window of a parked vehicle.

Stolen wallet

A woman reported her wallet stolen after shopping at Jewel in the 9400 block of Skokie Boulevard on July 25.
