Fence smashed

Police responded to a criminal damage compliant in the 4800 block of Wright Street on March 21 around 6:40 p.m. According to the report, brute force was used to break six wood fence slats near the yard. The victim noted that many teens cut through his property to get to Lee Wright Park and wanted the incident on record.

Retail theft at Macy's

Sefija Kendic, 54, of the 5300 block of Cumberland Avenue in Chicago, was charged with retail theft on March 21 around 4 p.m. According to the report, loss prevention agents at the Macy’s store at Old Orchard Mall saw Kendic select four items of clothing and enter a fitting room. She would later come out with only three of the items.

After security apprehended Kendic, a dress valued at $69.50 was found concealed in her possession. Her court date is April 4.

Identity theft reported

A woman came into the Skokie police station on March 21 to report an identity theft. According to the report, the victim received a phone call from Discover Financial Services about several suspicious purchases. The woman told authorities that she did not make the purchases and that she had been in sole possession of her credit card the entire time. More than $250 was charged to her card.

$5,200 taken in inside job

Prabhakar Gumidyala, 57, of the 300 block of Janes Place in Bolingbrook, was charged with theft on March 21. According the report, a manager at the Holiday Inn, 5300 Touhy Ave., told police that $5,200 was missing from a safe in the accounting office. The manager told authorities that only Gumidyala had access to the safe.

When confronted, Gumidyala admitted to taking the money due to financial problems at home. He would agree to return the money and the manager agreed not to press charges.

DUI arrests

Police stopped a cab driver after they saw his vehicle swerve several times near Niles Center Road and Skokie Boulevard on March 19. Evin Navarro, 46, of the 8300 block of Crawford Avenue, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. While Navarro refused to provide a breath sample, he did fail a sobriety test and police noticed the strong odor of alcohol on his breath. His court date is April 26.

Stephanie Christine Collazo, 24, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on March 20 around 2 a.m. According to the report, Collazo was stopped for speeding near Dempster Street and McCormick Boulevard. She had a blood alcohol content level of .189.

She was also issued citations for driving while on a suspended license, illegal screeching of tires and illegal transportation of alcohol. Her court date is April 18.
