Possession of cannabis charge

While conducting a traffic stop for an illegal U-turn in the 80 block of Christiana Avenue on July 30, police noticed the passenger place an item under the seat. According to the police report, police smelled a strong odor of cannabis coming from the vehicle and found two bags of a leafy green substance under the seat during a search.

The driver, a juvenile, was issued a citation for an illegal U-turn and was released to his parents. The passenger, also a juvenile, was charged with possession of cannabis, and has a court date of Aug. 22.

Missing wallet

Police responded to a gasoline station in the 4800 block of Dempster Street over a theft report July 31. A woman told police she purchased several scratch-off lottery tickets and placed her purse on the counter to remove her wallet. She laid her wallet on the counter and paid for the tickets.

When she arrived home, the victim realized she did not have her wallet. She searched her vehicle and returned to the store. The clerk said he had not seen her wallet nor had anyone turned it in.

The woman said credit cards, a CTA bus pass and about $40 were in the wallet.

Theft in garage

A man who lives in the 8200 block of Kenneth Avenue reported that his garage was entered between July 31 and Aug. 1 and his wallet and cell phone headset were removed from his vehicle. According to the police report, the victim said credit cards, insurance cards, club memberships, his pilot’s license and $100 were in the wallet.

GPS device stolen

Police were dispatched to the 8600 block of Niles Center Road in regards to an auto burglary Aug. 2. According to the police report, the owner said a Magellan GPS unit and about 80 cents in coins were removed from his vehicle between July 31 and Aug. 2.

Police said a GPS device matching the stolen item was recovered during an investigation of other car burglaries. The victim said his GPS device had his name and address logged in.

Window smashed in anger

Police responded to the 5200 block of Galitz Street over a domestic disturbance July 29. According to the police report, a man told police he heard yelling coming from the front lobby of his condo building, followed by a loud “bang.”

When he left his condo to check out the situation, he noticed a 4 feet by 8 feet window near the front door was cracked. He also noticed two people, later identified as Hao Van Le, 18, of Chicago, and his girlfriend.

Le told police that he kicked in the window after he had argued with his girlfriend. He said he was “stupid” for doing it but he just lost his temper.
