Thursday Blotter: Macy's Bust, Bicycle Heist

Shoplifting at Macy’s

Shandora Lynn Johnson, 18, of the 700 block of Mulford Avenue in Evanston, was charged with misdemeanor retail theft on June 12 around 7 p.m. According to the report, Johnson and a friend, whose name was withheld because she is a juvenile, were allegedly caught on a security camera trying to conceal about $70 worth of clothing at the Macy’s store in Old Orchard Mall. Johnson’s court date is July 12; her friend was referred to detectives for a follow up and later released to her mother.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with misdemeanor retail theft after an incident at Old Orchard Mall on June 14. According to the report, the suspect tried to conceal and leave Macy's department store with about $40 in merchandise. He was later interviewed by detectives and referred to juvenile court.

Stolen bike

An unsecured men's bike was stolen from a fenced-in area of a home in the 8600 block of East Prairie Road. According to the report, the owner put the value of the bike at $250. He also noted that it was the second time in three years that he had a bicycle stolen.

A bike valued at about $200 was stolen from a garage in the 8800 block of Niles Center Road on June 13. The owner said he was sure that his property was secured.

A $600 men’s bicycle was stolen from a shared garage unit in the 7400 block of Lincoln Avenue on June 9. According to the report, the building manager had surveillance footage of the theft, but police were unable to locate the suspect at the time.

High-end bicycle stolen

Police responded to an auto burglary in the 8300 block of Kolmar Avenue on June 13. According to the report, a $2,000 men’s bicycle was stolen from a minivan parked at that location. The owner told police that he used the bike to compete in Iron Man tournaments.
