Thursday Blotter: Man in DUI Asleep at Wheel

$7,000 taken from locker

Police responded to a theft at the Evanston Golf Club, 4401 Dempster St., on Sept. 10. According to the report, a man had his unlocked locker burglarized. Among the items taken were a cell phone, wallet and $7,000 in cash. The victim told police he didn’t feel the need to secure his locker because everyone at the club is a member.

Drunken driver asleep at wheel

Police responded to several residents who complained about a man sleeping at the wheel of his vehicle and blocking the entrance to an alley in the 8100 block of Knox Avenue on Sept. 10. According to the report, officers found Pablo Andrade, 39, of the 8500 block of Lotus Avenue, sleeping while his car was running. Andrade’s head was rested on the driver’s side doorframe.

While Andrade told police he had drank six beers, his blood alcohol content level registered a level of .206 in a test. He was charged with driving under the influence.

Metal gate stolen

Police responded to a theft in the 7900 block of Tripp Avenue on Sept. 11. According to the report, a metal gate was stolen from a homeowner’s property. The gate was used to secure the resident’s dog.

Random vandalism

Police responded to a criminal damage compliant in the 7500 block of St. Louis Avenue on Sept. 9. According to the report, a man had his rear windshield smashed out by a blunt object. No items were reported missing.

Craigslist scam

A woman came into the Skokie police station to report a deceptive practice on Sept. 9. According to the report, the victim placed an ad in Craigslist for day-care services. The poster would later receive a check from a man for $2,575 and was instructed to deposit the check into her bank account and then send $2,225 via Western Union to Michigan.

A few days after depositing the check into her bank account, the woman received a call from her bank informing her check was fraudulent.
