Thursday Blotter: Nearly $1,000 Taken in 2 Bank Card Cases

Residential Burglary

More than $15,000 in jewelry and a laptop were stolen from a home in 8000 block of Keating Avenue on May 3 around 7 p.m. According to the report, entry was gained through a rear locked door and the bedrooms were ransacked. Police are investigating matter.

ATM Skimming

A man came into the Skokie police station to report a deceptive practice on May 3 around 2:30 p.m. According to the report, $503 was removed from the his personal checking account in a transaction that occurred in Encino, CA. The man told police that he was in possession of his card the entire time. Police suspect the man was a victim of automated teller machine (ATM) skimming--click  for more information on the topic.

A woman came into the Skokie police station to report a deceptive practice on May 3. According to the report, $500 was withdrawn from her personal checking account without her knowledge. The woman told police that she was in possession of her ATM card the entire time.

Missing MacBook

A man who works in the 9600 block of Gross Point Road reported that his Apple MacBook was stolen on May 3. According to the report, the man left the laptop on his desk at 3 p.m. When he returned 10 minutes later, it was missing.

Windows Smashed in Car Burglary

Police were dispatched to the parking lot near the Crate & Barrel store at Old Orchard Mall on May 1 around 2:24 p.m. According to the report, a car's windows were smashed in a burglary attempt. Police were unable to contact the owner. So they left a note on the car that the owner should contact police.
