Tuesday Blotter: $11,000 Rung Up on Stolen Credit Cards

$11,000 in credit card fraud

A woman who was dining at Panera Bread in Skokie reported having her wallet stolen on June 3. According to the report, she received several calls from her credit card company about a possible fraud alert. It was later discovered that more than $11,000 was charged on her credit cards at Macy’s and Walgreens. 

Duo busted in retail theft

Rosetta L. Perry, 66, and Betty J. Mays, 58, both from Wisconsin, were charged with misdemeanor retail theft about 4:30 p.m. June 3. According to the report, the two women concealed 20 fragrances from a counter at Marshalls, 9445 Skokie Blvd. They were was observed by store security taking the items, valued at more than $500, and attempting to leave the store without paying for them.

After they were taken into custody, police discovered that Mays had a warrant out for her arrest regarding another retail theft in 2009. Perry and Mays were each charged with one count of misdemeanor retail theft, and their court date is July 12.

Garage burglary

A Matco torque wrench valued at $30 was stolen from a garage in the 5200 block of Crain Avenue on June 3. According to the report, brute force was used to gain entry into the garage. No other items were reported missing.

High-end bicycle snatched

Skokie police responded to the 4200 block of Church Street regarding a garage burglary on June 3 around 8 p.m. According to the report, a $1,500 red recumbent bicycle was stolen from the structure. No signs of forced entry were found at the scene.

Random vehicle vandalism

A Cadillac sedan parked in the 5000 block of Golf Road had its rear window smashed on June 3. According to the report, the owner had no idea who could be responsible for the damage.

Residential burglary

A home in the 5000 block of Morse Avenue was burglarized on June 3. According to the report, a window was forced open on the west side of the home to gain entry. The resident said historic gold coins valued at $350 were the only things missing.

DUI

Julian Alvarez-Bello, 36, of the 6000 block of Vernon Street in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol around 10:20 p.m. June 3. According to the report, Skokie police responded to a radio dispatch by the Lincolnwood police about a possible drunken driver who was described as being “all over the road.” 

While Bello refused to undergo a breath test, he failed the field sobriety test. He was also charged driving without a valid license. His court date is June 20.
