Tuesday Blotter: Art Theft at Skokie Library

Diamond earrings stolen
Police responded to a theft in the 9200 block of Karlov Avenue on Jan. 24. According to the report, a woman told police that an unknown person removed her 1-carat diamond earring from her jewelry box. She told police that she doesn’t know who took the earnings, but that a lot of family members had been at her house recently.
Deceptive practice

A man came to the Skokie police station to report an identity theft on Dec. 13. According to the report, an unknown person charged $774 to his debit card without his knowledge.

Another man reported a deceptive practice on Dec. 15. According to the report, an unknown person obtained his banking account and wrote two checks to a nearby Sam’s Club, totaling about $4,900.
Art theft at Skokie Public Library
Police responded to a theft at Skokie Public Library, 5212 Oakton St., on Jan. 23. According to the report, an unknown person removed several copper fragments from a copper statue located on the west exterior of the building. The several stolen pieces may have been two feet long, the report said.
There has been a recent increase in stolen metals in Skokie and neighboring areas.
