Banana Republic theft

Officers responded to a retail theft at the Banana Republic inside Old Orchard Mall on Aug. 20 at 12:20 p.m. The manager said on Aug. 18 a man and woman walked into the store, removed and fled  with "50 pieces of merchandise." The total value of the stolen items from the clothing retailer was more than $3,000.

On Aug. 20 about 8 p.m., officers responded to North Shore University Health System, 9600 Gross Point Road, to take an assault report. A woman told police that she was attacked by three other women in the basement of her apartment on the 4900 block of Kirk Avenue. She said two of the suspects held her arms while the third used a 10-inch steak knife to cut her hair. The suspects were described as between the ages of 45 and 55. The victim told police she had no idea why she was attacked.

On Aug. 21 at 1:20 a.m. near McCormick Boulevard and Oakton Street, officers noticed a silver 2001 Honda Civic make an illegal turn on a red light. Upon pulling over the driver, officers discovered the driver was only 15-years-old. He was accompanied by two of his 16-year-old friends. All three were arrested and issued citations for disobeying curfew and failure to wear a seat belt. The driver was also given a ticket for not having a valid driver's license.

Laptop taken in burglary

Officers were dispatched on Aug. 20 about 2 p.m. to the 5100 block of Coyle to investigate a residential burglary. A woman told police that she left her home at 12:45 p.m. and when she returned, her laptop was missing. The estimated value of the computer was $1,000. The resident said earlier she saw a white male with curly hair and a husky build walk up the driveway toward the rear of the house.

Motor vehicle theft

On Aug. 21 at 3:30 p.m., officers received a report that a 1995 navy Saturn SL with Minnesota license plates was stolen from the 4800 block of Lee Street on Aug. 20. A woman told police that she was between residence when the car, which had inside a television, clothing and Nintendo DS, was stolen.

Sweet-tooth theft

On Aug. 20 at 7:34 p.m., two black males entered Herms Place, 3406 Dempster St., and grabbed a "fruit chews candy bar" from a shelf near the cashier. The clerk asked the two if they were going to pay for the candy bar, to which they replied, "No." They then fled the restaurant without paying.

Jewelry stolen

Jewelry was stolen from a residence on 8600 block of Keeler between July 10 and Aug. 10, according to a report filed with Skokie police on Aug. 22. A woman said real estate agents, repair people and potential buyers had been through her home , which is currently up for sale. The two 14 karat gold necklaces' were valued at $1,300.  

Deceptive practices

More than $1,500 was removed from a Chicago automated teller machine about 6 p.m. Aug. 22 by using an alleged fraudulent debit card. A woman told poice that she was in possession of her Harris Bank debit card during the theft. She suspect someone must have gotten her card and access number without her knowledge.

On Aug. 23 at 3:34 p.m., a woman informed Skokie police that someone removed more than $900 from her Harris Bank account on the previous day at 5:40 p.m. The woman said she had been in possession of her bank card the entire time.

DUI arrests

Bartolo Texcaltenco-Rosalino, 34, of the 3000 block of Elbridge Avenue in Chicago, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on Aug. 22. When Texcaltenco-Rosalino was pulled over for traffic violations, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.  A Breathalyzer test showed that Texcaltenco-Rosalino had a blood alcohol content level of .127. and was issued a felony DUI for not having a valid driver's license.

Michael Nyquist, 49, of the 6000 block of Sheridan Road in Chicago, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on Aug. 22 about 1:45 a.m. Nyquist was traveling east on Dempster Street from Skokie Boulevard at more than 50 mph when police stopped him. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on his s breath and issued a Breathalyzer test. The driver had a .136 blood alcohol content level and was issued a DUI.

Carla Martinez, 32, of the 1500 block of Emerson Street in Evanston, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on Aug. 22 at 3:40 a.m. Martinez was pulled over for a traffic violation and had a blood alcohol content level of .098. She also was issued a citation for not having a front license plate.
