Tuesday Blotter: Bat Swinger Suspected in Car Vandalism

Vehicles vandalized

A car parked in the 3300 block of Lake Street had its windows smashed on May 21. According to the report, the driver’s side and rear windows were broken with what police suspect was a baseball bat. The victim said he purchased the car one month ago and reported no items were missing.

Another car had its windows smashed on May 21. According to the report, the vehicle was parked in the 9100 block of East Prairie Road and a blunt object was used to break the windows. The victim told police he estimated the damage at $1,500. No items were reported missing.

A Honda minivan had its windows bashed in on May 21. According to the report, the vehicle was also parked in the 3300 block of Lake Street, where a similar incident occurred. Police suspect the same person was responsible for the act.

CTA radio theft

A CTA radio was stolen from a train employee at the Skokie Swift station on May 20 around 11 a.m. According to the report, the worker left the radio unattended as he worked on the tracks.

Deceptive practice

A woman came into the Skokie police station to report a deceptive practice on May 20 around 12 p.m. According to the report, the woman was unknowingly listed a co-signer on a loan that had since gone to collections. 

Wallet snatched at restaurant

A woman reported her wallet missing after dinning at Corner Bakery in Old Orchard Mall on May 20. According to the report, she left her purse hanging on the back of her chair while she ate. The victim later learned that her charge card was used at Bed Bath and Beyond in Village Crossing later that day. 

Left with phone bill tab

A woman came into the Skokie police station to report a deceptive practice on May 20 around 3 p.m. According to the report, an AT&T cell phone line had been unknowingly opened under her name and Social Security number. The account has since gone to collections and the victim was contacted by collection agency for an amount of $608.
