A woman received a check for $820,070 along with another check from Prudential Bank for $9,589. According to the report, a letter was enclosed with both checks saying the woman won “The Reader’s Digest” sweepstakes. The letter also said to contact a “David Watson” or “Stacy Anderson” prior to deposing any checks, the report said.

Counterfeit cash

An employee at Starbucks at Barnes and Noble in Village Crossing called police to report a counterfeit transaction on Feb. 4. According to the report, a woman used a fake $100 bill to buy a cupcake. The manager didn’t realize the bill was phony the first time around, but said the same woman came a few days later and tried to make the same purchase with a phony $50 bill, the report said.

When the manager said he had to get change from the back room, the alleged suspect took back the $50 bill and fled the store, the report said.
