Tuesday Blotter: Business Owner Missing Funds, Leaves Set Ablaze

Juvenile arson

On Oct. 25 around 6 p.m., officers responded to an arson call at Lee-Wright Park. According to the report, at least eight females lit a pile of leaves that were on top of a park table and then ran off in various directions.

Busted for pot

Ruslan Nairner, 30, of the 9300 block of Landings Avenue in Des Plaines, was charged with having tinted front windows, possession of marijuana and not wearing a seatbelt. According to the report, Nairner was stopped for a traffic violation near Dempster Street and Niles Center Road about midnight on Oct. 30. Police found that Nairner had more than three grams of marijuana in his possession.

Motor vehicle theft at mall

An iTouch and several credit cards were among the items stolen from a 2009 BMW parked near Champps restaurant in Old Orchard Mall on Oct. 30. According to the report, a window was shattered to gain entry.

More car burglaries

On Oct. 30 around 6:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to Village Crossing shopping center regarding a theft from a motor vehicle. According to the report, a car's window was smashed and a Fuji digital camera, notepad and memory card were taken from the vehicle.

Taxi medallion stolen

A taxi medallion was stolen from a cab that was parked in the 5400 block of Harvard Terrace on Oct. 28. Cab drivers have to pay several thousand dollars to purchase the medallion from the City of Chicago.

Locker room theft

A Sony PSP video game, $200 and several credit cards were stolen from a locker at the Webber Leisure Center on Oct. 30.

Macy's theft thwarted 

Tanja Nmi Petrova, 24, of the 900 block of Mark Lane in Wheeling, was charged with retail theft on Oct. 28. According to the report, Petrova selected three shirts with a combined value of $167 and put them under her coat. She then attempted to leave Macy's at Old Orchard Mall without paying.

Coach wallets, purses stolen

About a $1,000 worth of Coach brand wallets and purses were stolen from the Coach store at Old Orchard Mall on Oct. 31. According to the report, the suspects who allegedly stole the merchandise tried to later return the items at the Coach store in Northbrook. No arrests were made.

Gang graffiti at Blockbuster

On Oct. 22 around 3 p.m., officers responded to a criminal damage call at Blockbuster Video, 3545 Dempster St. Police discovered a five-point crown with an upside down pitchfork on the west side of the rear door. The five-point crown symbolizes the Kings while the pitchfork represents the Gangster Disciples, according to authorities. Having the pitchfork upside is a sign of disrespect.

Business owner scammed

On Oct. 28 a Skokie business owner came into the police station to report that more than $25,000 was transferred out of his account and into an international account. The man told police that he never approved the transfer and had informed his bank of the matter.

ATM skimming

On Oct. 30, a woman came into the police station to report that more than $1,700 was taken out of her checking account. She said she was in possession of her credit card the entire time. The woman was most likely a victim of ATM skimming. To read more about skimming, click here.

DUI arrests

Kareem Middleton, 24, of the 3700 block of West Shakespeare Avenue in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs on Oct. 30 around 1 a.m. Police stopped Middleton near the 3300 block of Howard Avenue and found he had a blood alcohol content of .063. He also admitted to officers that he was still under the influence of drugs.

Gary Marvin Charlton, 51, of the 8200 block of Knox Avenue, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Oct. 30 around 11 a.m. Charlton was found between two buildings near the 8000 block of Knox Avenue. When officers asked Charlton what he was doing, he said, "Trying to pee, I pissed myself in the car and tried to finish in the alley." He had a blood alcohol content of .094.

Johnnie M. Johnson, 57, of the 400 block of Green Bay Road, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Oct. 30 about midnight. Police stopped Johnson for traffic violations near the 8100 block of Skokie Boulevard. He told police that he had one shot of alcohol, but police later discovered he had a blood alcohol content of .261.
