Easy car theft

A parked sedan was stolen from the 8900 block of Bennett Street on Jan. 16. The victim said she left her keys in the ignition to warm up the car while she was inside her home around 6 p.m. Police are investigating the case.

Cab driver mugged

A cab driver was mugged after he dropped off five teenagers he picked up from a Chicago motel on Jan. 16 around 10 p.m. According to the report, the cabbie lost his laptop and more than $300. The suspects told the driver to drop them off just south of Main Street and McCormick Boulevard. They were described as five black teens, ages 15-16, ranging from 5-foot-5-6-foot-2. The driver was not seriously injured despite being struck with a metal pipe.

Marijuana possession charge

Adam Huska, 19, of the 4200 block of Kayla Lane in Skokie, was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on Jan. 15 around 3:30 p.m. Police responded to a tip that Huska was selling drugs and stopped his vehicle over a traffic violation near Golf Road and Lockwood Avenue. Police found more than 4 grams of cannabis, a grinder and smoking pipe. Huska’s court date is Feb. 16.

Credit card fraud

A woman came into the Skokie police station to report that more than $900 was charged to her husband’s credit card without his authorization on Jan. 15. According to the report, the charges were made at Nordstrom’s in Old Orchard Mall on Jan. 14.

Drunk driver causes crash

Erdenebileg Dorj, 46, of the 3100 block of Springfield Avenue in Chicago, was charged Jan. 14 about 9 p.m. with several offenses including driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to slow down to avoid a crash, driving in the wrong lane. According to the report, Dorj caused an accident near Oakton Street and McCormick Boulevard by driving in the wrong lane. He had a blood alcohol content level of .425.  The driver of the other vehicle was not seriously injured.

Theft from motor vehicle

An iPod, Coach Sunglasses and about $10 in change were stolen from a vehicle parked in the 4800 block of Hull Street on Jan. 16. The victim told police that the combined value of the items taken was more than $600.

Residential burglary

A home in the 8000 block of Kilbourn Street was burglarized on Jan. 14 around 4 p.m. According to the report, entry was made through a backdoor and a purse containing $100 was stolen. The victim was an 88-year-old woman. Police are investigating the matter.

Another residential burglary

More than $700 in cash, silverware and a $500 watch were stolen from a home in the 5200 block of Cleveland Street on Jan. 14 around 6 p.m. According to the report, the home was entered through an unknown access.

No payday for Chuck E. Cheese

A woman skipped on a $65 bill after she had a party for her children with more than 15 people at Chuck E. Cheese in Village Crossing on Jan. 15. According to the report, the woman refused to pay the bill because it was “too much.” The manager then informed her that he would call the police if she did not pay, to which she replied, “I don’t care, the police won’t do anything to me.”

DUI arrests

Eleuterio Carganillo, 57, of the 5400 block of Kimball Avenue in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Jan. 16 around 4:30 a.m. According to the report, Carganillo was stopped for a traffic violation near the 7900 block of Lincoln Avenue. His blood alcohol content level was .84.

On Jan. 15 around 5 a.m., Skokie police stopped Navdeep Singh, 23, of the 7500 block of Kolmar Street, for driving under the influence of alcohol. Singh told police that he just had “two or three beers.” His blood alcohol content was .115.

Reynaldo Navarrete, 25, of the 2000 block of 18th Street in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Jan. 15 around 1:30 a.m. Navarrete was stopped for speeding near the 8200 block of Skokie Boulevard. His blood alcohol content level was .091.
