Tuesday Blotter: Man Bitter Over Dog; Alleged Fondler at Store

DUI charge

Thomas Rusak, 28, of the 4700 block of Main Street, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on April 23 around 2:30 a.m. According to the report, Rusak was stopped for speeding near the 8200 block of Skokie Boulevard. He had a blood alcohol content level of .190. His court date is May 12.

Attempted robbery

A man walking toward a McDonald's in Evanston was attacked near Dempster Street and McCormick Boulevard on April 23 around 8 p.m. According to the report, the victim was pushed from behind but was able to fend off his assailant. No items were reported stolen.

Broken window

A homeowner’s basement window was reported broken in the 8800 block of Lavergne Avenue on April 25 around 5 p.m.

Doggie dog world

Michael Vincent Karpelian, 25, of the 8800 block of Lamon Avenue, was charged with disorderly conduct on April 26 around 8:30 p.m. According to the report, Karpelian got into a dispute with a man walking his dog  in front of his home and became hostile, threatening the man by saying, “Tell your dog to shut the f*** up! I own this block!” His court date is May 26.

Theft from motor vehicle

A car parked in the 4800 block of Hull Street was burglarized on April 27. According to the report, the driver’s side window was smashed to gain entry and a GPS device was stolen.

Gutters stolen

Two downspouts were stolen from the back of a garage in the 9000 block of Bennett Street on April 28. According to the report, the items are valued at about $100.

Inappropriate contact

Police responded to the report of a battery at the Barnes & Nobles store in Village Crossing on May 1 around 5 p.m. According to the report, a girl looking at sketchbooks was inappropriately touched. The girl confronted the suspect and went to get her mother, but the offender had fled the scene by then.

The suspect was described as either a white or Hispanic male, about 50-years-old, 5-foot-5, salt and pepper hair and was wearing glasses.

Police are investigating the matter.
