Tuesday Blotter: Mom Charged in Theft, 4 Vehicles Vandalized

4 vehicles vandalized

Police responded to a criminal damage call in the 7400 block of Tripp Avenue on Jan. 30 around 8 p.m. According to the report, at least four vehicles sustained damage when their windows were smashed. One victim told police that she suspected a BB gun was used to break the windows. Police are investigating the incident.

Arrest over order violation

On Feb. 4 around 8 p.m., police arrested Cruz Loyd, 23, of the 4800 block of Hull Street, because he violated a protection order placed on him by 46-year-old woman who had been his girlfriend. According to the report, the woman had authorities issue the order in April 2009. Loyd's court date is Feb. 16.

Troy Jones, 23, of the 3500 block of Lake Street, was charged with possession of cannabis on Feb. 5 around 1 a.m. Jones was stopped for a traffic violation near the 3400 block of Dempster Street. Police immediately detected the strong odor of cannabis in the car when Jones was asked for his insurance information. He told police that more than 3 grams of the drug was in his glove compartment. His court date is March 23.

Wii controller theft

Yolanda Christmas, 35, of the 1100 block of Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago, was charged with misdemeanor retail theft on Feb. 5 around 7 p.m. According to the report, Christmas stole a Wii controller valued at $39.99 from Best Buy in the Village Crossing shopping center. She told police, “My daughter wanted a Wii controller and I did not have the money to pay for it. So I took it.” Her court date is March 1.

DUI arrest

Stephen M. Galo, 43, of the 300 block of Bel Air Drive in Glenview, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Jan. 30 around 1 a.m. According to the report, Galo was stopped for making an illegal U-turn near Lockwood Avenue and Dempster Street. While he refused a Breathalyzer test, he did fail a field sobriety test performed by police. His court date is March 10.
