Tuesday Blotter: Noisy Car Stolen; Identity Theft

Noisy car stolen

A 1995 Honda Civic was stolen while it was parked in the 9100 block of Gross Point Road on April 22 around 6 a.m. According to the report, the vehicle made a very loud noise due to a faulty muffler. The owner told police he would have heard his vehicle if someone tried to operate it. Police observed no broken glass at the scene of the crime.

Identity theft

A woman came into the Skokie police station to report an identity theft on April 22 around 11:40 a.m. According to the report, the woman's Chase debit card was used to withdraw a $2,500 line of credit. The woman told police that her card was taken along with her wallet while dinning at a restaurant in Winnetka.

A woman came into the Skokie police station to report a deceptive practice on April 22 around 12 p.m. According to the report, credit information was illegally obtained and used to purchase several items at the Nordstrom store in Old Orchard Mall. The woman told police she had been in possession of her card the entire time. 

DUI charge

Dean Giroy Baizar, 42, of the 4900 block of Old Orchard Road, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on April 22 around 8 p.m. According to the report, police stopped Baizar's vehicle for speeding near the 3400 block of Main Street. He told police he had five drinks, but registered a blood alcohol content level of .138. His court date is June 3.

Heavily intoxicated driver

Fredrick Watkins, 56, of Wisconsin, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on April 23 around 11:30 p.m. According to the report, police observed Watkins almost strike another vehicle while traveling eastbound on Oakton Street.

Police then observed Watkins' vehicle travel very slowly and ultimately stopped it in the 4900 block of Oakton Street. Officers spotted an open bottle of brandy in the backseat and noticed that Watkins’ pants were undone.

Watkins registered a blood alcohol content level of .286–more than three times the legal limit. He was charged with improper lane usage, driving under the influence of alcohol and no proof of insurance. His court date is May 12.
