Tuesday Blotter: Reckless Driver Resists Arrest

Reckless driver charged

Philip A. Lewis, 38, of the 4900 block of Warren Avenue, was charged with reckless driving and resisting arrest around 11:30 p.m. Aug. 6. According to the report, Lewis was stopped near Cleveland and Keating avenues for screeching his tires.

Police asked Lewis to exit his vehicle and at one point he told officers to “get out of my face.” He then went on to call police a variety of derogatory words while he was resisting arrest, according to the report.

After several hours, Lewis settled down, when he told police he was upset because he got into a fight with his girlfriend and that “I’m a maniac with my car sometimes.” His court date is Sept. 2. 

Vehicle vandalism

A car parked in the 1000 block of Cherry Parkway was reported vandalized on Aug. 6. According to the report, an acidic solution was poured onto the sedan, causing its paint to bubble. The car owner told police he had no idea who was responsible.

A car parked near the Maggino’s parking lot in Old Orchard Mall had its side view mirror gouged out on Aug. 4.

Items taken from garage

A ladder valued at $800 and a girl’s bicycle were reported stolen from a garage in the 7400 block of Kenneth Avenue on Aug. 5. The homeowner suspected that scrappers took the items.

Video game theft foiled

Jayven Jacob Smith, 29, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft on Aug. 5. According to the report, Smith allegedly took six Playstation 3 games and attempted to leave a store without paying for them. Store security witnessed the theft via camera and notified police, who would later apprehend Smith when he exited the store. His court date is Sept. 15.

Theft from vehicle

A GPS device, a flashlight and several keys were taken from a car parked in the 8000 block of Keeler Avenue on July 31.

A car parked in the 8800 block of LaCrosse Avenue was reported burglarized on Aug. 5. According to the report, two cell phone chargers and a set of keys were taken from the vehicle. The owner told police she might have left the doors unlocked.
