Tuesday Blotter: Road Rage Call; Post-Game Arrest

Theft from motor vehicle

Police responded to a theft from motor vehicle in the 7500 block of Hamlin Avenue on July 18 around 4 a.m. According to the report, the driver’s side window was smashed open, pry marks were visible by the door and the trunk was left open. A $50 cleaning kit and several dollars in loose change were taken.

Pizza grab and go

Police responded to a retail theft in the 3400 block of Church Street on July 17 around 12 a.m. According to the report, two teenagers, who appeared about 16 years old, took several frozen pizzas and ran out the front door. The value of the pizzas was about $25.

DUI

William Seaton Andrews, 26, of the 3800 block of Lindenwood Lane in Glenview, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on July 7.

According to the report, Andrews was stopped near the 4400 block of Golf Road after police observed him hiding behind a bush and “peeking” at two officers who were conducting a separate traffic stop. After Andrews realized he was discovered, he walked back to his parked vehicle and drove off. Police pulled him over shortly afterward.

Andrews failed a Breathalyzer test and was subsequently charged. His court date is Aug. 22.

Stolen wedding rings

A woman came into the Skokie police station to report a theft on July 21. According to the report, the woman left her garage door open for two hours while she wasn’t home. When she returned, she discovered her $20,000 wedding ring was stolen. Also missing was a silver antique ring valued at $7,000. No other items were taken.

Road rage

Police responded to a road rage compliant near Oakton Street and Skokie Boulevard on July 21. According to the report, the caller told police he had cut off another driver near the 8300 block of Gross Point Road. The irate driver got out of his vehicle while both drivers had stopped at a traffic light and punched the window and knocked down a side view mirror on the caller's vehicle.

The suspect then flipped his license plate upward to prevent the other driver from getting the plate numbers and fled the scene. Police classified the incident as a battery.

Drunken move

Chris Vijitchanton, 28, of Skokie, was charged with being a pedestrian under the influence of alcohol and resisting arrest on July 20 around 12:30 a.m. According to the report, Vijitchanton was traveling in the back seat of his sister’s car when they were stopped at a police DUI checkpoint in the 8700 block of McCormick Boulevard.

After Vijitchanton exited the vehicle, he began running eastbound with his middle finger toward police screaming, “F*** you, you think you can stop me?” As Vijitchanton ran, he was almost struck by several vehicles, according to the report.

Police ultimately caught up to Vijitchanton. They discovered that he was had been at a Chicago Cubs baseball game and was intoxicated. His court date is Aug. 9.
