Tuesday Blotter: Road Rage Leads to Gut Check

Police make drug bust

Deondre Tyrell Watkins, 19, of the 7500 block of California Avenue in Chicago, was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver on Nov. 30. According to the police report, Watkins was stopped after officers responded to a suspicious incident call in the 4800 block of Elm Street.

Once police approached the vehicle they said they smelled the odor of burnt cannabis. They also discovered just under 10 grams of marijuana that was bagged up into nine smaller bags underneath the driver’s seat, according to the report. Watkins denied possession of the drug, but was charged anyway. His court date is Jan. 13.

Plate sticker stolen

Police responded to a theft in the 7600 Marmora Avenue on Nov. 29. According to the report, an unknown person(s) removed a license plate sticker from a parked vehicle.

Window shattered in GPS theft

Police responded to a car burglary in the 8100 block of Keeler Avenue on Nov. 30. According to the report, a GPS device valued at $100 was stolen from the vehicle. The suspect(s) used a blunt object to smash out the driver’s side window to gain access inside the car.

Graffiti

Police responded to a criminal damage compliant in the 7900 block of Lamon Avenue on Nov. 30. According to the report, white spray paint was used to write the letters “SL” on a residential building.

Road rage

A man was punched in the stomach after trying to stop a motorist who gave him the middle finger near the intersection of Oakton Street and Keating Avenue on Nov. 30 around 11 a.m.

According to the report, the victim got out of his vehicle and told the offending driver that he was going to detain him until police arrived on scene. Unfortunately, the man was punched in the gut and the suspect fled the scene.  

When police did arrive, they advised the man not to try and detain anyone, and to let officers handle that aspect.
