Tuesday Blotter: Sleeping Behind the Wheel

Hanging purse

A woman reported her purse stolen after dinning at Corner Bakery in Old Orchard Mall on Nov. 27. According to the report, the purse was hanging on the back of her chair. More than $400 and several credit cards were inside the bag, the report said.

A man reported his smartphone stolen after playing basketball at Lifetime Fitness, 5330 Old Orchard Road, on Nov. 25.

Sleeping behind wheel

Luis A. Coto, 32, of Evanston, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Nov. 25. According to the report, police found Coto sleeping in his vehicle in the 9100 block of Ewing Avenue around 4:15 p.m. Police found open liquor inside the vehicle, but Coto did not submit to a Breathalyzer test, according to the report. The suspect was transported to Skokie Hospital for treatment as the driver was unresponsive when officers tried to wake him up, the report stated.

Abercrombie theft

Mario David Delcid, 30, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft on Nov. 25. Delcid took $158 worth of merchandise from Abercrombie & Fitch in Old Orchard Mall and attempted to leave without paying, the report stated. His court date is Dec. 19.
