Tuesday Blotter: Stolen Laryngoscope

Theft from auto

A blow dryer, tennis shoes, curling iron and $1,300 worth of sheers were reported stolen from a car parked outside Lifetime Fitness, 5330 Old Orchard Road, on Dec. 22. The suspect(s) used a blunt object to smash out the rear driver’s side window to gain entry.

More than $46 of gas was reported stolen from a gas station in the 5000 block of Touhy Avenue on Dec. 24.

Pot possession

A 24-year-od Morton Grove man was charged with possession of cannabis on Dec. 29. The man was stopped near the intersection of Dempster Street and Niles Center for a traffic violation. He had about 2 grams of marijuana in his vehicle, the report stated.

A 45-year-old Skokie man was charged with possession of marijuana on Jan. 11.

Stolen phone

An Apple iPhone was reported stolen from a car parked in the 8500 block of Trumbull Avenue on Jan. 9.

A man reported his cell phone stolen from his residence in the 9400 block of Hamlin Avenue on Jan. 13.

Deceptive practice

A woman reported that someone unknown to her tried using her credit card in Wichita, Kans., on Jan. 11 without her knowledge.

DUI

Jorge Hernandez, 33, of Round Lake, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Jan. 17. Hernandez was stopped for a traffic violation around 11:30 p.m. His court date is Feb. 15.

Stolen smoke alarms

A man reported that an unknown person(s) stole two smoke alarms from the common area of his apartment in the 7900 block of Karlov Avenue on Jan. 15. The combined value of said items was around $60, police said.

Damaged decorations

A couple came into the Skokie police station to report that an unknown person(s) damaged their holiday decorations outside their home in the 9200 block of Central Park Avenue on Jan. 15.

Stolen hospital equipment

About $3,000 in hospital equipment was reported stolen from Skokie Hospital, 9600 Gross Point Road, on Jan. 15. According to the report, an unknown person(s) removed a laryngoscope - an instrument for examining the larynx - from a room in the intensive care unit. No arrests were made.

Stolen golf club

A golf club valued at $400 was reported stolen from Golf Galaxy, 4821 Golf Road, on Jan. 16. A sales associate told police he believes the person who stole the club is the same offender responsible for a similar theft at a Downers Grove location. No arrests have been made at this time.
