Tuesday Blotter: Woman Scammed Over Phone

The following arrest information was supplied by the Skokie Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction. At Skokie Patch, we update our blotter daily.

Phone scam

A woman reported receiving several harassing phone calls from different male subjects telling her she won $65,000 on Aug. 24. The scammers told the woman she must meet them at a local Walgreens with $300 to claim her prize, the report said. No arrests were made.

A woman told police she received a phone call from a man claiming to be her grandson on Aug. 23. The suspect told the woman he was in jail and needed $2,800 to get out. He also instructed the victim not to tell family members.

The woman would later go to a bank and wire the funds to an account in the Dominican Republic, the report said. She would later find out that her grandson was doing just fine and was never arrested.

Harassment

A woman reported receiving several harassing text messages from a family member on Aug. 24.

Jean thief

A total of four blue jeans were reported stolen from a vehicle parked outside Nordstrom in Old Orchard Mall on Aug. 24. The suspect gained access by smashing out the back window, the report said.

High-end glasses stolen

A pair of glasses valued at $600 were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 9200 block of Drake Avenue on Aug. 24.

Driving with Mary Jane

A Skokie man was charged with possession of marijuana on Aug. 25. The suspect was stopped during a traffic safety check roadblock. Police would ultimately find two grams of cannabis in his trunk.
