Wednesday Blotter: 'But I'm High,' Driver Tells Police

Wallet theft at salon
On July 28, a woman reported that her wallet was stolen while she was at Bollywood Salon two days earlier. The woman told police while at the salon, her daughter placed the wallet on a chair next to the victim. A few minutes later, the wallet, containing a driver’s license, credit cards and $60 in cash, went missing.

Police observed a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta with a broken rear taillight crossing yellow traffic line and nearly striking a median in the 3700 block of Main Street on July 30. A few blocks later, Randell J. Cade, of Country Club Hills, was pulled over and police detected the strong odor of burned cannabis being emitted from his vehicle, according to the report.
When police asked Cade how much alcohol he had consumed, he said, “I haven’t had anything to drink tonight, but I’m high.” Cade told police he smoked a “blunt” about 45 minutes before he was pulled over.

After a field sobriety test, Cade was charged with traffic violations and driving under the influence of drugs. He posted bond, and has a court date of Sept. 12.
Public drunkenness
Police were called July 29 to a restaurant in the 5000 block of Old Orchard Center about an intoxicated customer. According to a police report, Scott T. Shoulders, 41, of Algonquin, was standing outside the restaurant with mall security agents and was being verbally loud and abusive.
Police charged Shoulders with public intoxication. His court date is Aug. 16.
Purse goes missing
A Chicago woman reported to police on July 29 that her purse was missing after she left a restaurant in the 7100 block of Carpenter Road.
According to a police report, the woman said she placed the purse, containing credit cards and $200, on a tabletop to take pictures, but could not recall if she picked it up afterward. When the purse owner realized it was missing, she returned to the restaurant to inform a manager but no one had reported turning in the purse.
DUI charge in traffic stop
Police stopped a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV in the 5300 block of Dempster Street for improper lane usage July 30.
According to the police report, Cristian Pricopie, 34, of Skokie, completed field sobriety tests. When police asked him if he should have been driving, Pricopie allegedly told the officer, “No, you got me. I am 34 years old and it was bound to happen eventually.”
Pricopie was charged with improper lane usage and driving under the influence. His court date is Sept. 2.
Restaurant window cracked
Police were dispatched to a restaurant in the 9100 block of Gross Point Road after a burglar alarm was activated July 30. According to the report, police arrived to find the front glass window cracked and a large rock was nearby.
Police reported that the tint film probably prevented the glass from shattering. The premise was checked and found to be secured.
The business owner told police this was the third incidence of damage to the property. Police expected to receive a copy of surveillance video in their investigation.
Swop in bike theft
Police were dispatched to the 9400 block of Avers Avenue about a theft report July 29.
According to the police report, a woman said silver Trek 3500 bicycle, valued at $400, was taken from the north side of the residence. The bike, property of her son's friend, had been replaced with a purple Huffy Lakota bicycle.
Two black male teenagers, who were seen in the area earlier, are suspected in the theft.
