Wednesday Blotter: Dog Scares Burglar

Drug bust

Philip P. Trinh, 21, of Lincolnwood, was charged with felony possession of cannabis with intent to deliver on Dec. 23. Trinh was stopped in the 5000 block of Dempster Street following a roadside safety checkpoint that was setup for the holidays. Police detected a strong odor of cannabis emitting from the vehicle when they stopped Trinh, the reported stated.

In the end, more than 72 grams of marijuana was found inside the vehicle, as well as several small plastic baggies. There was also $747 in Trinh’s possession, the report stated. His court date is Jan 2.

Dog may have drove burglar away

Police responded to a residential burglary in the 8500 block of Karlov Avenue on Dec 12. According to the report, the homeowner heard his dog barking in an aggressive manner in the downstairs basement.  The homeowner then heard the sound of someone running followed by a loud “pounding” noise, the report stated. The homeowner believes the pounding noise was when the suspect opened a basement door that is not frequently used by the family. No items were reported missing.

Macy’s theft

A 15-year-old male was charged with retail theft on Dec. 23. According to the report, the teen tried to steal a pair of basketball shoes valued at $110 from Macy’s in Old Orchard Mall.

Storage unit burglarized

Police responded to a theft at Public Storage, 8220 Skokie Blvd., on Dec. 23. According to the report, a storage unit was burglarized. More than $900 worth of video games were taken, the report said. Public Storage Skokie has no surveillance cameras so they are unsure who committed the theft.
