Fight at Old Orchard Mall

Police responded to a disturbance that was later reclassified as a battery at Old Orchard Mall on Aug. 31. According to the report, a man pushed and punched another man in the chest at the mall. The victim responded by fighting back, causing a laceration near his assailant's left eye. The alleged attacker fled the scene and police were unable to locate him. The motive for the assault is unknown at this time.

Residents help nab burglar

Police were dispatched to the 4900 block of Church Street regarding a man who was attempting to loot parked vehicles on Sept. 1 around 4 a.m. According to the report, two residents called police and said they saw a man pulling on car doors to determine whether they were unlocked and looking inside of them with a flashlight.

Officers later surveyed the scene and charged Don Alexander Papdatos, 23, of the 8900 block of Bronx Avenue, with criminal trespass. Papdatos would admit to police that he opened several car doors that matched the description given by the residents. His court date is Oct. 7.

Cart looters nabbed outside of Jewel

Jerry D. Kennedy, 34, of the 8000 bock of Kenton Avenue, was charged with misdemeanor retail theft after he was caught Sept. 1 with a cart full of beer and groceries from Jewel, 9449 Skokie Blvd.

According to the report, Kennedy was seen by store employees pushing around a cart filled with booze near the exit doors. Kennedy then tried to flea the supermarket with the merchandise without paying, but he was stopped by Skokie police who were notified earlier.

When asked why he took the merchandise, Kennedy told police, “I plead the Fifth [Amendment].” His court date is Sept. 15.
