Wednesday Blotter: Hard Looks and Pushing

Pushing match

Police responded to a battery complaint near the intersection of Oakton Street and Skokie Boulevard on April 6. According to the report, two men gave each other “hard looks” and got into a “pushing match” with each other. No charges were filed.

Police responded to a theft of services complaint at Buffalo Wild Wings in Village Crossing on April 7. According to the report, a regular customer ditched his $54 bill.

High school pool parts looted

Police responded to a theft at Niles North High School, 9800 Lawler Ave., on April 9. According to the report, several 8x10 steel plates with a combined value of $3,500 were removed from a construction site at the school. The plates were supposed to be used for building an Olympic sized swimming pool. Police viewed video surveillance and could not immediately conclude who took the materials, the report said.

Bogus scam

A man came into the Skokie police station to report that he had been scammed out of $694 on April 9. According to the report, the victim received a call from a man with a “strong [foreign] accent.” The suspect told the man that he had to pay $694 for an online loan he took out over the Internet. The suspect proceeded to say that if he did not submit the payment within three hours that he would be arrested immediately by local police, the report said.

The victim then went on to his local Currency Exchange and wired the money , despite never taking out an online loan, to an unknown person in Florida, the report said.

Slashed tire

A car parked in the 7900 block of Lamon Avenue was reported vandalized on April 8. According to the report, a sharp object was used to slash the vehicle’s tire.
