Wednesday Blotter: Ruse Burglary Hits Skokie

Ruse burglary

Police were dispatched to the 5100 block of Pratt Street regarding a ruse burglary on Feb. 24. According to the report, two men told the homeowners that they were from the water department and had to check several pipes inside the home. The suspects would then split up so that one was always out of sight, the report said.

When the homeowners became suspicious, they told the alleged suspects that they were calling their son. The two men would then flee, according to the report. They were described as two white males, in their 30s, stocky builds with stubbly facial hair, the report said.

Bad deal

Police responded to a battery complaint in the 4000 block of Oakton Street on Feb. 21. According to the report, the man purchased a used Honda for $6,000 through an ad on Craigslist. While the odometer said the car had 97,000 miles, the title stated it had more than 160,000, the report said. This upset the man and a scuffle between the buyer and seller ensued. No charges were filed.

Gang graffiti

Police responded to a criminal damage complaint in the 8200 block of Kimball Avenue on Feb. 21. According to the report, two upside pitchforks were drawn with black spray paint. The upsides down pitchforks are typically a sign of disrespect toward the Gangster Disciples, a well-known gang in Chicago.

Residential burglary

A home in the 8000 block of Lincoln Avenue was reported burglarized on Feb. 24. According to the report, the suspect(s) used a pry tool to gain entry inside the home. Once inside, the culprit(s) removed $500 in cash, a laptop and a variety of jewelry, the report said.
