Tuesday Blotter: Saleswoman Arrested Over Theft of Funds

Wallet snatched from restaurant

A woman dining at Panera Bread in Skokie reported her purse was stolen on Aug. 19. According to the report, the victim left her purse on a chair next to hers. Several credit cards were taken, but woman reported several unauthorized transactions were made at Macy's, Walmart and an online retailer before the cards were canceled.

House vandalized

Police responded to a criminal damage compliant in the 9200 block of Keeler Avenue on Aug. 21. According to the report, a large rock was used to shatter a window of the home. The victim suspects an former lover is responsible for the damage.

Lawn figurines stolen

Police responded to a theft in the 4900 block of Carol Avenue on Aug. 21. According to the report, six lawn figurines were stolen from the backyard. The items included gnomes and baskets with flowers.

Duo busted for shoplifting

Rodney Mitchell, 42, of the 1700 block of Lyons Avenue in Evanston, and Kimberly Mitchell, 38, of the 4800 block of Hull Street, were charged with retail theft on Aug. 13. The two were observed selecting several pieces of merchandise at the Old Navy store in Skokie and leaving without paying. Police stopped the couple after they left and found more than $100 worth of clothing inside their vehicle.

Saleswoman busted after audit

Susan L. Dinh, 21, of the 8000 block of Crawford Avenue in Skokie, was charged with one felony count of theft by deception on Aug. 18. According to the report, The Limited store at Old Orchard Mall conducted an audit and found funds missing. During the course of an investigation, the auditor discovered $761.39 was missing.

He would later discover that Dinh, a sales associate at the store, would return items for cash and conceal the money in her shoe. Dinh would later admit to police that she was stealing the cash to pay for her college tuition at the Art Institute of Chicago. Her court date is Aug. 24.
