Woman Dies After Skokie Auto Crash

The traffic fatality occurred after the driver struck a tree, according to the preliminary police investigation.


A woman died Sunday after being involved in a single-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon, the Skokie Police Department said in a statement. 

She was driving southbound on LaCrosse Ave. form Oakton Street at about 2:52 p.m. Saturday. Police said she may have suffered a medical episode, but whatever the reason, her vehicle went off the road and struck a tree, according to the preliminary investigation. 

The driver, Nela Tarnopolsky, 87, of Morton Grove, was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston for evaluation. However, she died Sunday, Aug. 25 as a result of her injuries, according to a statement from police.   

Skokie police are continuing their investigation of the crash.
