Woman Involved in DUI, Two Accidents and Police Chase

Details are limited, but police say the driver was intoxicated.

A woman who was involved in a minor accident near Howard Street and Skokie Boulevard fled the scene and ultimately got into a more serious accident two minutes later around 8:30 a.m. today.

According to police, an officer witnessed the first accident and told both occupants to stay in their vehicle. Shortly after returning to his squad car, the driver at fault sped off, and a two minute police chase ensued.

Unfortunately, the second accident was more severe; as the woman received serious injuries after her pickup truck struck another vehicle and flipped over near Touhy and Laramie Avenues. The other driver received minor injuries and both parties were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, said Commander Brian Baker of the Skokie Police Department.

"[Both accidents] are under investigation," Baker said. "But alcohol definitely played a role."

Police aren’t releasing any names as both crashes are currently under investigation.

Baker said the police chase was minor and not a high speed pursuit. He also added that the department is unsure if the suspect was even aware of the officer’s sirens after fleeing from the first accident.
