Stop hanging your purse on the back of a chair

A woman came into the Skokie police station to report a theft on Sept. 30. According to the report, the victim was dining at and upon leaving, she realized her wallet was stolen. The woman told police her purse was hanging on the back of a chair while eating at the restaurant.

Shortly after realizing her wallet was missing, the victim soon learned that $2,100 was charged at a Best Buy in Evanston and $450 was charged at a nearby Target.

Police told Skokie Patch that they see reports like this all the time, and are advising women to stop hanging their purses on the back of their chairs while dinning.

Attempted burglary

A burglary attempt on a home in the 8800 block of Bronx Avenue was made on Sept. 29. According to the report, the door lock had been dented. No entry was made.

UPS theft

A package intended for a home in the 4100 block of Kirk Avenue was reported stolen on Sept. 30. According to the report, a woman was expecting a pair of boots and an anklet bracelet from UPS. While UPS confirmed the delivery, the victim told police she never received her items.

The shipment was valued at $121.

Identity theft

A man came into the Skokie police station to report an identity theft on Sept. 30. According to the report, an unknown person charged more than $1,800 on his debit card at the Apple Store in Old Orchard. The man told police he was the only one in possession of his card when the transaction occurred.

Deceptive practice

A woman came into the Skokie police station to report a lost wallet on Sept. 30. The woman told police that her credit card had more than $320 charged at a nearby Walmart. She also added that two iPhones were purchased with the card. The victim told police she last saw her wallet on a counter inside her home.
