Early Polling Numbers: Skokie, Lincolnwood

Voters are out and about - some at the wrong locations - but Skokie Patch has some early polling numbers to share.

Both Lincolnwood and Skokie have some heated elections happening today.

In Skokie, all six trustee seats are open for election, and there are nine candidates. Meanwhile, in Lincolnwood, there are nine trustees fighting for three seats and three mayoral candidates.

Early polling numbers from around 12:30 p.m. today showed that a total of 97 people voted at Skokie Village Hall, 5127 Oakton St., which serves precincts 16 and 39.

Precinct 16 had a total of 27 votes cast while precinct 39 had 60. There are a total of 44 precincts in Skokie.

"One of the problems we're having is that people think they just come to Skokie Village Hall to vote," said one voting official. "We've been sending a lot of people away, telling them that they're supposed to vote elsewhere."

McCracken Middle School, 8000 East Prairie Road, serves precinct 44, and had about 60 votes cast a little past noon today.

Trustee Randy Roberts was standing outside with Haidee Herron - who represents trustee candidate Brian Novak - greeting voters.

"There's going to be more action at some of the school districts which have contested races," Roberts said. "I've been making the rounds all morning."

Of Skokie's seven school districts, only two have contested races - District 72 and District 73.5.

According to voting information, more than 1,200 area residents voted early at Skokie Village Hall, 5127 Oakton St., between March 25 and April 6 . That  number is just from Village Hall. There were several other locations that offered early voting.

In addition, 132 people have requested absentee ballots, and six people asked for “grace period votes.”

Lincolnwood -

Lincolnwood Village Hall was having some of the same problems as Skokie.

"Yep, we're sending off a lot of people," said David Slotnik, a voting official. "A lot of people are coming from Barclay Towers and we're sending them off to the right place."

Lincolnwood Village Hall, 6900 Lincoln Ave., serves precincts 52 and 56, and had a total of 155 votes cast around 1 p.m. today.

Voting hours end at 7 p.m. today. Official voting tallies for each candidate won't be available until later this afternoon. Check Skokie Patch later this afternoon for more details.
